Cultivated and steam-distilled in New Zealand from the flowering tops of the Lavandula angustifolia 'Pacific Blue' cultivar (a selectively bred plant variety developed specifically for New Zealand's climate), Zurma’s NZ Pacific Blue Lavender Essential Oil is a pure, locally produced botanical extract. It presents as a clear to pale yellow mobile liquid with a crisp, herbaceous-floral aroma underscored by clean, slightly fruity undertones. Chemically characterised by high concentrations of linalyl acetate (a calming aromatic ester) and linalool (a naturally occurring terpene alcohol) alongside low levels of camphor, this true lavender oil offers a smooth olfactory profile. Within clinical aromatherapy and natural perfumery, it functions as a gentle nervine (an agent that calms and supports the nervous system) and a versatile top-to-middle note that blends cleanly with citrus, wood, and resin essential oils.

Skincare Ritual & Well-being Applications: The chemical composition of Lavandula angustifolia essential oil is widely documented in clinical literature for its calming effects on the central nervous system and its supportive actions on the skin's protective outer surface [1]. When diffused into the room, the inhalation of linalyl acetate and linalool assists in moderating physiological stress responses, easing nervous tension, and supporting restful sleep patterns [1, 2]. In topical cosmetic formulations, diluted Lavender essential oil demonstrates mild anti-inflammatory and skin-repairing and wound-healing properties, making it a functional active in facial serums, body lotions, and soothing balms formulated to calm redness, minor skin irritations, or reactive skin profiles [2]. For an aromatic bath, blend 3–5 drops into a suitable solubiliser (a substance that disperses oil evenly in water) or fixed carrier oil before adding to warm water to prevent undiluted essential oil from contacting the skin directly.

Formulation & Safety Guidelines:
Application: Designed for ambient diffusion, therapeutic massage formulations, targeted dermal care, and natural perfumery.

Dermal Limits & Clinical Safety:
Lavandula angustifolia essential oil is non-toxic, non-irritant, and non-sensitising when properly diluted. For standard topical cosmetic applications, a dilution of 1% to 2% in a fixed carrier oil or emulsion base is recommended for facial care, and up to 3% to 5% for localised body massage [3].

Storage & Degradation:
Because linalool and linalyl acetate are susceptible to autoxidation (chemical breakdown when exposed to air) over time—forming peroxides that can increase the risk of dermal sensitisation (allergic skin reactions)—containers must be kept tightly sealed [3]. Store in a cool, dark environment away from direct UV light and heat. When stored correctly, Lavender essential oil maintains optimal stability for 24 to 36 months.

Critical Warnings:
For external cosmetic and aromatic use only. Do not ingest unless under the direct supervision of a qualified clinical practitioner. Never apply undiluted essential oils directly to the skin. Keep out of reach of children. Perform a standard 24-hour patch test prior to regular topical use.

Zurma Essential Oils - Highest Quality Pure and Natural
At Zurma we go to great lengths to ensure that we only sell the highest quality pure and natural essential oils. We have searched the world for the best essential oils. Our in-house quality control system ensures that this high standard is maintained for all our essential oils. Every essential oil comes with a Certificate of Analysis (COA) and Gas Chromatograph/Mass Spectrometer (GCMS) test to confirm that they are genuine and authentic essential oils containing their correct active constituents.

The only exception to this is with the New Zealand small scale essential oil producers we buy direct from e.g., Lavender, Mānuka, Kānuka, Tea Tree etc. This is because we know and trust these growers who distil their own essential oils.

Finally, all essential oils have to undergo our own in-house smell, appearance and feel test and if they are not up to our high standards, we simply send the product back to the supplier. Based on this quality control process we believe that the 100% Pure and Natural essential oils that Zurma supplies to our customers are of the highest quality and are excellent for use in aromatherapy.
