This premium Labdanum Resinoid is offered at a 50% dilution in Triethyl Citrate (TEC) to provide exceptional workability. Pure labdanum is exceptionally dense; the addition of TEC, a naturally derived and odourless cosmetic solvent, transforms it into a very viscous, dark brown liquid that is ready to pour and blend without compromising its structural integrity.

A staple in classic perfumery, this resinoid delivers a deeply complex base profile characterised by balsamic, ambery, woody, spicy, and resinous notes. It serves as a formidable fixative in fine fragrance, anchoring highly volatile citrus or floral top notes and providing a rich, vegan alternative to traditional ambergris or musk accords.

Technical Specifications:

Aroma Profile: Balsamic, ambery, woody, spicy, and resinous

Formulation & Safety Guidelines:

  • Application: Designed for cosmetic formulation, fine perfumery, and ambient scenting.
  • Solubility: Readily miscible in perfumers alcohol and fixed carrier oils. Due to its high viscosity, gentle warming in a water bath may further assist in homogenization during the compounding phase.
  • Storage: To prevent oxidation and degradation of the aromatic compounds, keep containers tightly closed and store away from direct heat sources or extreme temperatures.
  • Safety: For external use only. Avoid direct contact with eyes. While not classified as hazardous, we recommend standard patch testing for all leave-on cosmetic applications.

Blends Well With: Balsam Peru, Black Pepper, Cardamom, Cedarwood, Champaca Pink, Cinnamon Bark, Cocao, Cypriol, Fir Balsam, Geranium, Jasmine sambac, Jasmine grand, Lotus Pink, Myrhh, Opopanax, Patchouli, Rose Moroc, Sandalwood, Tuberose, Vanilla, Vetiver, Ylang Ylang Extra

Why Dilute with TEC?
Pure labdanum resinoid is a dark, incredibly sticky, and stiff paste that is difficult to work with or drip into formulas. Diluting it 50% by weight with Triethyl Citrate (TEC)—a common, odorless, and eco-friendly fragrance carrier—transforms it into a workable dark brown liquid that can be easily measured and pipetted.

PLEASE NOTE: Labdanum Resinoid is not recommended for aromatherapy; it is intended for use in perfumery only. All absolutes are exceedingly concentrated by nature. Unless you are used to the undiluted aroma, all absolutes should not be appraised in their pure form. We strongly advise those who are unfamiliar with absolutes to identify them only after dilution. Otherwise, people with untrained olfactory sensibilities will be confused by the intricacy of the aroma, particularly the unusual and exotic elements.

Zurma Essential Oils - Highest Quality Pure and Natural

At Zurma we go to great lengths to ensure that we only sell the highest quality pure and natural essential oils. We have searched the world for the best essential oils. Our in-house quality control system ensures that this high standard is maintained for all our essential oils. Every essential oil comes with a Certificate of Analysis (COA) and Gas Chromatograph/Mass Spectrometer (GCMS) test to confirm that they are genuine and authentic essential oils containing their correct active constituents.

The only exception to this is with the New Zealand small scale essential oil producers we buy direct from e.g., Lavender, Mānuka, Kānuka, Tea Tree etc. This is because we know and trust these growers who distil their own essential oils.

Finally, all essential oils have to undergo our own in-house smell, appearance and feel test and if they are not up to our high standards, we simply send the product back to the supplier. Based on this quality control process we believe that the 100% Pure and Natural essential oils that Zurma supplies to our customers are of the highest quality and are excellent for use in aromatherapy and perfumery.
