Extracted from the premium gum resin of the Indian Frankincense tree (Boswellia serrata) using advanced, solvent-free supercritical CO₂ technology, this exceptional extract captures the most complete, unadulterated essence of the raw botanical. Unlike traditional steam distillation, this gentle, low-temperature extraction process successfully preserves the heavier, skin-conditioning botanical compounds—such as the highly prized boswellic acids—that are naturally present in the resin. The result is a profoundly concentrated extract with a rich, full-bodied aroma that perfectly mirrors the deep, woody, and warm-spicy scent of raw Indian frankincense tears.

In premium cosmetic formulation and natural perfumery, this thick, deeply resinous extract is highly sought after as a luxurious botanical active and an outstanding base-note fixative. It is exceptionally comforting for dry, mature, or environmentally stressed skin profiles, serving as a powerful, replenishing foundation in targeted facial serums, intensive moisture balms, and rich night creams. By deeply conditioning the epidermis and supporting a calm, balanced complexion, it acts as an unparalleled botanical agent for promoting remarkably smooth, radiant, and healthy-looking skin.

Skincare Ritual & Well-being Applications: Within a holistic self-care routine, Frankincense Serrata CO2 is universally revered as a profound botanical tool for emotional grounding and deep physical comfort. Incorporating a carefully diluted drop of this intensely rich, woody extract into your evening facial oil or targeted body balm encourages a mindful, intentional approach to personal wellness. Taking the time to slowly massage these warm, earthy notes into the skin transforms a highly functional moisturising step into a deliberate, restorative daily ritual that actively honours your skin's natural resilience and helps anchor a busy mind.

Formulation & Safety Guidelines:

Application: Designed as a highly concentrated botanical active for advanced cosmetic formulation, natural perfumery, and targeted, comforting skincare blends.

Formulation Note: As a remarkably potent CO2 extract, this product should never be applied neat (undiluted) to the skin. Due to its thick, viscous nature, it may require gentle warming in a tepid water bath prior to blending. It must be seamlessly dissolved into a suitable carrier oil (such as Jojoba, Sweet Almond, or Apricot Kernel) or a lipid-based cosmetic emulsion. We recommend a general skincare dilution rate of 0.5% to 2% for optimal skin conditioning without overwhelming the formulation.

Storage: To preserve its highly complex portfolio of heavier botanical compounds and deep aromatic notes, ensure containers are kept tightly closed. Store in a cool, dark environment away from direct UV exposure and extreme heat.

Safety: For external cosmetic use only. Do not ingest under any circumstances. Always dilute properly before application. We strictly recommend performing a patch test on a small area of skin prior to full application. If you are pregnant, nursing, or under medical care, please consult a healthcare professional before incorporating this potent extract into your routine.

Contraindications

  1. Pregnancy and breastfeeding: Frankincense essential oil should be avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

  2. Allergies: Some individuals may be allergic to frankincense or other ingredients in the oil, so it's important to test a small amount of the oil on the skin before using it.

  3. Interaction with Medications: Frankincense essential oil may interact with certain medications, such as blood thinners, so it's important to consult a healthcare professional before using it if you're taking any medications.

  4. Asthma: People with asthma should avoid inhaling Frankincense essential oil as it may cause an allergic reaction or aggravate the asthma symptoms.

Why CO₂ Serrata Is Special

Supercritical extraction captures a fuller aromatic spectrum than distillation by retaining: alpha thujene, alpha pinene, limonene, myrcene, sabinene, diterpene alcohols such as incensole and serratol, traces of boswellic acids. Together these contribute to its soothing, restorative and grounding qualities. Serrata has a slightly smokier, sweeter and softer aroma than frankincense carterii, making it ideal for calming blends and skin supporting formulas.

Zurma Essential Oils - Highest Quality Pure and Natural

At Zurma we go to great lengths to ensure that we only sell the highest quality pure and natural essential oils. We have searched the world for the best essential oils. Our in-house quality control system ensures that this high standard is maintained for all our essential oils. Every essential oil comes with a Certificate of Analysis (COA) and Gas Chromatograph/Mass Spectrometer (GCMS) test to confirm that they are genuine and authentic essential oils containing their correct active constituents.

The only exception to this is with the New Zealand small scale essential oil producers we buy direct from e.g., Lavender, Mānuka, Kānuka, Tea Tree etc. This is because we know and trust these growers who distil their own essential oils.

Finally, all essential oils have to undergo our own in-house smell, appearance and feel test and if they are not up to our high standards, we simply send the product back to the supplier. Based on this quality control process we believe that the 100% Pure and Natural essential oils that Zurma supplies to our customers are of the highest quality and are excellent for use in aromatherapy.
