Frankincense Serrata CO₂ select Extract is a light yellow to orange resin extract with a warm, incense like aroma. It is produced through supercritical CO₂ extraction, which preserves the most important monoterpenes, sesquiterpenes, and diterpene alcohols, including incensole and serratol. This creates a smoother, deeper and more resin true extract compared with steam distilled frankincense.
This extract offers a bright, slightly spicy opening with classic frankincense warmth and a soft woody drydown. It is comforting, grounding and ideal for both skincare and natural perfumery.
It takes around 8 to 12.5 kg of raw resin to produce 1 kg of extract, reflecting its concentration and purity.
Why CO₂ Serrata Is Special
Supercritical extraction captures a fuller aromatic spectrum than distillation by retaining:
-
alpha thujene
-
alpha pinene
-
limonene
-
myrcene
-
sabinene
-
diterpene alcohols such as incensole and serratol
-
traces of boswellic acids
Together these contribute to its soothing, restorative and grounding qualities.
Serrata has a slightly smokier, sweeter and softer aroma than frankincense carterii, making it ideal for calming blends and skin supporting formulas.
