Cosmetic Grade Beef Tallow – Grass-Fed, Refined (NZ Origin)

A traditional ingredient is making a powerful return to modern skincare, this pure, refined beef tallow is sourced exclusively from 100% grass-fed, free-range New Zealand cattle. Carefully rendered and deodorised to cosmetic grade, it’s low in odour, smooth in texture, and packed with skin-loving nutrients.

What sets tallow apart is its unique bioavailability—rich in fat-soluble vitamins A, D3, E, and K2, as well as essential fatty acids and cholesterol that plant-based oils simply don’t offer. These compounds are critical for skin renewal, hydration, and barrier support.

Why Use Tallow in Skincare?
Beef tallow closely mimics the structure of human skin sebum, allowing for optimal absorption and compatibility with all skin types. It delivers:

Vitamin A (as Retinol): Encourages cell turnover, smooths texture, supports collagen production.

Vitamin D3: Promotes barrier repair and reduces inflammation, ideal for eczema-prone or sensitive skin.

Vitamin E: A natural antioxidant that helps protect against UV and pollution-related ageing.

Vitamin K2: Supports elasticity and wound healing, rare in plant oils.

Cholesterol: Crucial for maintaining a healthy, hydrated skin barrier—something plants don’t provide.

Stearic Acid: Reinforces skin structure, deeply moisturising without greasiness.

Palmitoleic Acid: A natural antimicrobial agent that helps with breakouts and skin regeneration.

Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA): Soothes inflammation and supports healing in irritated or damaged skin.

Skincare Recipes Using Cosmetic-Grade Tallow

1. Clarifying Tallow Balm (Acne-Prone / Oily Skin – 50g, ~1% EO)

Balances oil, reduces inflammation, and supports skin healing.

Ingredients:

30g beef tallow

20g jojoba oil

5 drops German chamomile (Matricaria recutita)

5 drops manuka (Leptospermum scoparium)

5 drops clary sage (Salvia sclarea)

Optional: Add 3g beeswax for a firmer texture (semi-solid balm)

Method:
Melt tallow (and beeswax if using). Stir in jojoba oil. Cool to ~35°C, add EOs, pour into jar.

2. Barrier Repair Tallow Balm (Eczema / Dry Skin – 100g, ~1% EO)

Nourishes, soothes, and strengthens the skin’s barrier.

Ingredients:

60g beef tallow

30g calendula-infused oil

10g shea butter

5 drops Roman chamomile

5 drops frankincense carterii

5 drops lavender true

Optional: Add 5g beeswax for a firmer balm or salve consistency

Method:
Melt tallow, shea, and beeswax if using. Stir in calendula oil. Cool and add EOs. Pour into a clean jar.

3. Gentle Baby Tallow Balm (50g, ~0.2% EO, fragrance-free optional)

Safe and soothing for dry baby skin, nappy rash or cradle cap.

Ingredients:

35g beef tallow

15g apricot kernel oil

Optional: 1–2 drops lavender true (Lavandula angustifolia)

Optional: Add 2g beeswax for a more solid texture that’s protective on baby’s skin

Method:
Warm tallow and beeswax if using. Stir in apricot oil. Add essential oil below 35°C. Pour into jar and cool.

Working With Beeswax (Optional Guidance)

Adding beeswax:

Helps harden the balm, useful for hot climates or stick formats

Adds a slightly more occlusive finish (great for lips or barrier balms)

Typical range: 4–10% of total formula by weight

General guidelines:

For a soft balm: use 2–3g beeswax per 50

For a medium balm: 4–5g per 50g

For a firm salve or stick: 7–10g per 50g

Always melt beeswax gently with tallow to avoid overheating and degradation.

Taollow is Ideal For:

Rich facial and body balms
