Often used in perfumery for its warm, creamy, and nostalgic scent, this Vanilla CO₂ extract oil adds a luxurious base note that blends beautifully with floral, spice, balsamic and woody accords. With over 250 aroma components vanilla beans have one of the most complex aromas and extraction via CO₂ offers the most complete capture of these amazing scents. A key player in natural perfumes, it anchors blends with softness and depth, and is perfect when used in combination with tonka, labdanum, sandalwood, cocoa, citrus or resins. A little goes a long way.
Zurma offers two versions of Vanilla CO₂, each varying in aromatic intensity and vanillin content:
Vanilla CO₂ Extract 12% Vanillin
A gently sweet, rounded extract with a soft true-to-bean aroma. This version contains approximately 12% natural vanillin and is extracted using 11–14 kg of vanilla beans to yield 1 kg of product. Ideal when a subtler vanilla note is desired or when used in larger concentrations in body care or mild aromatic blends.
Vanilla CO₂ Extract 26% Vanillin
A bold and concentrated extract with a strong, creamy, almost syrupy vanilla profile. Contains approximately 26% natural vanillin, with a higher extraction ratio of 16–18 kg beans per 1 kg extract. Thick and pasty at room temperature with visible vanillin crystal formation. Best used sparingly in perfumery where lasting impact and deep sweetness are desired.
Botanical Name: Vanilla planifolia
Part Used: Dried Beans
Class: Phenolic Aldehyde
Perfumery Note: Base
Country of Origin (Raw Material): Madagascar (Bourbon Type), Comoros (Bourbon Type), Uganda
Country of Production: Germany
Both varieties are produced using supercritical CO₂ extraction without any carriers or excipients—just the pure aromatic essence of vanilla beans. The 12% is a clearer oil, while the 26% is thicker and may require gentle warming before use.
How to Use:
-
In perfumery, both can be used to anchor and enrich a blend. The 26% is ideal as a fixative base; the 12% for adding warmth without overpowering.
-
In skincare, blend 1g of either into 25ml of a oil like Jojoba or Meadowfoam, or Shea butter for a nourishing, sweetly scented body oil or balm.
This Vanilla CO₂ is produced via supercritical CO₂ extraction with no solvents, carriers, or excipients—just the concentrated aromatic essence of pure vanilla beans. The CO2 extraction process is the technology of choice for gently extracting aromatic compounds and enriching them in concentrated form.
