Cultivated and steam-distilled in Bulgaria from the flowering tops of Lavandula angustifolia, Zurma’s Certified Organic Lavender Essential Oil is a classic, versatile botanical extract. This true lavender distillation presents a clear to pale yellow mobile liquid with a fresh, sweet, floral-herbaceous aroma and soft woody undertones. Chemically defined by its balanced concentration of linalyl acetate (a calming aromatic ester) and linalool (a naturally occurring terpene alcohol), Bulgarian Lavandula angustifolia lacks the sharp, camphoraceous edge found in lavandin hybrids or spike lavender. Within clinical aromatherapy and natural perfumery, it functions as a reliable nervine (an agent that calms and supports the nervous system) and a foundational top-to-middle note that bridges bright citrus oils with deeper wood and resin bases.

Skincare Ritual & Well-being Applications: The chemical profile of Lavandula angustifolia essential oil is extensively documented in clinical literature for its soothing effects on both the central nervous system and the cutaneous barrier (the skin's protective outer surface) [1]. When diffused into the environment, the inhalation of linalool and linalyl acetate assists in moderating stress responses, reducing nervous tension, and preparing the body for restful sleep [1, 2]. In topical cosmetic formulations, diluted Lavender essential oil exhibits mild anti-inflammatory and cicatrisant (skin-repairing and wound-healing) actions, making it a functional addition to facial serums, body lotions, and targeted balms designed to calm redness, minor blemishes, or reactive skin profiles [2]. For an aromatic bath, blend 3–5 drops into a suitable solubiliser (a substance that disperses oil evenly in water) prior to adding into warm water to prevent undiluted essential oil from contacting the skin directly.

Formulation & Safety Guidelines:

Dermal Limits & Clinical Safety:
Lavandula angustifolia essential oil is non-toxic, non-irritant, and non-sensitising when properly diluted. For standard topical cosmetic applications, a dilution of 1% to 2% in a fixed carrier oil or emulsion base is recommended for facial care, and up to 3% to 5% for localised body massage [3].

Storage & Degradation:
Because linalool and linalyl acetate are susceptible to autoxidation (chemical breakdown when exposed to air) over time—forming peroxides that can increase the risk of dermal sensitisation (allergic skin reactions)—containers must be kept tightly sealed [3]. Store in a cool, dark environment away from direct UV light and heat. When stored correctly, Lavender essential oil maintains optimal stability for 24 to 36 months.

Critical Warnings:
For external cosmetic and aromatic use only. Do not ingest unless under the direct supervision of a qualified clinical practitioner. Never apply undiluted essential oils directly to the skin. Keep out of reach of children. Perform a standard 24-hour patch test prior to regular topical use.

Zurma Essential Oils - Highest Quality Pure and Natural

At Zurma we go to great lengths to ensure that we only sell the highest quality pure and natural essential oils. We have searched the world for the best essential oils. Our in-house quality control system ensures that this high standard is maintained for all our essential oils. Every essential oil comes with a Certificate of Analysis (COA) and Gas Chromatograph/Mass Spectrometer (GCMS) test to confirm that they are genuine and authentic essential oils containing their correct active constituents.

The only exception to this is with the New Zealand small scale essential oil producers we buy direct from e.g., Lavender, Mānuka, Kānuka, Tea Tree etc. This is because we know and trust these growers who distil their own essential oils.

Finally, all essential oils have to undergo our own in-house smell, appearance and feel test and if they are not up to our high standards, we simply send the product back to the supplier. Based on this quality control process we believe that the 100% Pure and Natural essential oils that Zurma supplies to our customers are of the highest quality and are excellent for use in aromatherapy.

General Essential Oil Safety Recommendations

  • People who are pregnant or have serious medical problems are advised to consult with a qualified aromatherapy practitioner before using essential oils.
  • Use extreme caution when using essential oils with children. It is safest to consult with a qualified aromatherapy practitioner before using essential oils with children.
