Cold-pressed from the rind of the Citrus bergamia fruit, this premium Bergamot Essential Oil captures the exquisite, highly complex citrus profile that has made it a legendary staple in classic perfumery (famously characterising the scent of Earl Grey tea). Uniquely positioned among citrus oils, Bergamot presents a brilliantly fresh, zesty top note that is beautifully grounded by a surprisingly dry, floral, and slightly spicy herbaceous undertone, creating an incredibly elegant and sophisticated aroma.

In advanced cosmetic formulation, Bergamot is prized for its naturally clarifying and purifying properties. It serves as an exceptional botanical active in balancing facial toners, refreshing body washes, and targeted skincare preparations designed to manage excess oil and promote a remarkably clear, refined, and healthy-looking complexion. In ambient diffusion, its complex, deeply uplifting character works synergistically to help clear a heavy atmosphere, simultaneously invigorating the senses while quietly easing the feeling of mental tension.

Skincare Ritual & Well-being Applications: Within a holistic self-care routine, Bergamot Essential Oil is universally revered as a profound emotional balancer—it is uniquely capable of both uplifting a tired spirit and calming an anxious mind. Diffusing 3–5 drops of this elegantly complex oil helps cultivate a sophisticated, revitalising atmosphere, making it an exceptional botanical tool for cutting through the afternoon slump or clearing the energy of a room. When carefully diluted into an evening body oil or shower gel (adhering strictly to sun-safety guidelines), taking the time to breathe in these beautifully floral-citrus notes transforms a functional cleansing step into a deliberate, luxurious daily ritual that actively refreshes both the body and the mind.

Formulation & Safety Guidelines:
Application: Designed for natural perfumery, ambient atmospheric scenting, clarifying cosmetic formulations, and uplifting body care blends.

Formulation Note: This is a highly concentrated pure essential oil. For topical cosmetic applications, it must be properly diluted in a suitable carrier oil (such as Jojoba, Sweet Almond, or Grapeseed) or a lipid-based cosmetic emulsion.

Storage: Like all true citrus essential oils, Bergamot is susceptible to oxidation over time. To preserve its complex aromatic profile and prevent the formation of skin-sensitising compounds, ensure the bottle is kept tightly closed. We highly recommend storing this oil in the refrigerator, or in a consistently cool, dark environment away from direct UV exposure.

Safety: For external cosmetic and atmospheric use only. Do not apply undiluted to the skin and never apply to broken or irritated skin.
  • Critical Phototoxicity Warning: Standard, cold-pressed Bergamot Essential Oil is highly phototoxic. Do not apply this oil to the skin (even when diluted) if the application area will be exposed to sunlight or UV rays within 12 to 18 hours. If applying topically during the day, restrict its use to skin areas permanently covered by clothing, or exclusively reserve it for evening/nighttime skincare rituals.
  • Always perform a patch test on a small area of skin when trying a new diluted botanical product. If you are pregnant or under medical care, consult a healthcare professional before use.

Zurma Essential Oils – Highest Quality Pure and Natural
At Zurma we go to great lengths to ensure that we only sell the highest quality pure and natural essential oils. We have searched the world for the best essential oils. Our in-house quality control system ensures that this high standard is maintained for all our essential oils. Every essential oil comes with a Certificate of Analysis (COA) and Gas Chromatograph/Mass Spectrometer (GCMS) test to confirm that they are genuine and authentic essential oils containing their correct active constituents.

The only exception to this is with the New Zealand small scale essential oil producers we buy direct from e.g., Lavender, Mānuka, Kānuka, Tea Tree etc. This is because we know and trust these growers who distil their own essential oils.

Finally, all essential oils have to undergo our own in-house smell, appearance and feel test and if they are not up to our high standards, we simply send the product back to the supplier. Based on this quality control process we believe that the 100% Pure and Natural essential oils that Zurma supplies to our customers are of the highest quality and are excellent for use in aromatherapy.

General Essential Oil Safety Recommendations
