DIY Lip Care: Natural Lip Scrubs & Balms for Soft, Healthy Lips
Share
Dry, chapped lips are a common complaint—especially during winter, or after wind, or sun exposure. Just like the rest of our skin, lips benefit from regular care: gentle exfoliation to remove dry skin and balm to seal in moisture and protect.
Making your own lip products at home is simple, cost-effective, and completely customisable. Plus, you get to choose the scent, texture, and ingredients that feel best for your body.
Here’s how to create your own lip scrubs and balms using ingredients from the Zurma Essential Oil, Nut & Seed Oil, and Waxes & Butters ranges.
Why Use Lip Scrubs & Balms?
Lip scrubs gently exfoliate the surface of the lips, removing flaky skin and improving smoothness. This also helps lip balm absorb better and can even make lipstick or tint look more even.
Lip balms protect and hydrate by forming a breathable barrier that locks in moisture, softens the lips, and shields from harsh conditions like cold, wind, or sun.
Step 1: Lip Scrub Base Recipe
Coconut Sugar Scrub (Gentle Exfoliation)

1 teaspoon Jojoba Oil
1 teaspoon coconut sugar or soft brown sugar
1–2 drops Peppermint Essential Oil for a fresh tingle (optional)
Instructions:
Mix into a thick paste and gently rub on lips in a circular motion for 30 seconds. Wipe or rinse off and follow with balm.
Other Lip Scrub Variations:
Sweet Vanilla: Use raw sugar + Apricot Kernel Oil + a drop of Vanilla CO₂ Extract
Lemon Brightening: Use white sugar + Sweet Almond Oil + a drop of Lemon Essential Oil
Chocolate Coffee: Ground coffee + Apricot Kernel Oil + a little cocoa powder
Step 2: Lip Balm Base Recipe

Notes on Use:
Use your scrub 1–2 times per week, followed by balm
Store balm in a cool place away from sunlight
If gifting or selling, always use clean tins and include ingredient labels
Essential oils are strong—keep total drops under 5 for 10ml lip balm base
To Conclude:
Lips don’t have oil glands, so they rely on what you apply. Homemade scrubs and balms give you control over what goes on your skin—no fillers, just nourishing oils and waxes to restore and protect.
