Opoponax (also known by some as Sweet Myrrh) has a warm sweet balsamic and slightly spicy aroma. Opoponax essential oil is steam distilled from the resin of trees of the same genus as ordinary Myrrh, and as such their aromas share some similarity. However, Opoponax oil tends to be a bit lighter and sweeter. If the aroma of Myrrh oil is a bit too intense for you then Opoponax should be more pleasing aromatically.

Safety Data:   Opoponax can be photo-toxic and there is a moderate risk of skin sensitisation if used undiluted topically on the skin. Tisserand and Young (2014) recommend a dermal maximum usage level of 0.6%. Not to be used during pregnancy.
